Front-End Alignment Cost · 2026

A front-end (2-wheel) alignment runs $50 to $100 at most shops. It is the right service for vehicles with a solid rear axle. On any car with independent rear suspension, 2-wheel is incomplete: the rear can also drift, and only a 4-wheel job catches it.

02WHAT IS ADJUSTED

The angles touched on a 2-wheel job

AXIS

Toe

always adjusted

Toe is set on every front-end alignment by adjusting the threaded tie rod ends. The most common cause of feathered tire wear and the most sensitive angle to road impacts.

AXIS

Camber

if equipped

Adjustable on trucks and older vehicles with eccentric cam bolts or slotted strut mounts. On most modern strut suspensions, camber is fixed from the factory and only changes if a part is bent.

AXIS

Caster

heavy-duty trucks

Adjustable on trucks with double-wishbone front suspension and shimmed upper control arms. Not adjustable on most cars without aftermarket parts.

03UPSELL WATCH

When a shop quotes 4-wheel on a solid-axle truck

LEGITIMATE

Thrust angle alignment

The shop will measure the rear axle's thrust angle and adjust the front toe to match it. Worth the $20 to $40 premium if the truck has been in an accident, has a worn rear leaf, or pulls persistently after a 2-wheel alignment.

UPSELL

“Standard 4-wheel”

On a solid rear axle, there is no rear toe or rear camber to adjust. If the shop cannot explain what they will adjust differently, ask for the 2-wheel price. Save $30 to $80.

04FAQ

Common questions

Q.01Should I push back if a shop quotes 4-wheel on a solid-axle truck?+
Sometimes. If the shop is quoting 4-wheel because they want to measure the rear thrust angle and reference the front to it, that is a legitimate thrust-angle alignment and worth $20 to $40 more. If they cannot explain what they will adjust differently, ask for the 2-wheel price.
Q.02Is a front-end alignment as good as a 4-wheel?+
On a vehicle with a solid rear axle, yes. The rear axle is fixed and cannot be adjusted, so a 2-wheel alignment is the complete service. On any vehicle with independent rear suspension, 2-wheel is incomplete because the rear can drift out of alignment too.
Q.03What does a front-end alignment adjust?+
Toe is always adjusted. Camber if the vehicle has factory adjustment hardware (usually slotted strut bolts or eccentric cam bolts). Caster on some heavier-duty trucks with adjustable upper control arms. Most modern strut-suspension cars only allow toe adjustment from the factory.
